“Wendy will be unable to participate in this upcoming tour due to the injuries she sustained after falling from a stage during rehearsals for a performance in Korea last year,” the statement read.
Members Selugi, Irene, Joy and Yeri will hold the tour as planned.
SBS Gayo Dajeon was a dangerous event for many K-Pop stars as fans and idols reported the state being too slippery to perform on. Videos show many idols slipping and complaining to the organizers during rehearsals and after the main performance.
Wendy reportedly dropped six feet to the ground while rehearsing as the area of the stage meant to be lifted for her to walk was dark and not raised. She sustained injuries to her face and fractures to her right wrist and pelvis.
Red Velvet isn’t the only group to be performing sans a member. JYP group Twice have been performing without Japanse member Mina since their release of song “Fancy” as she reportedly deals with anxiety and stress.
Red Velvet gave their first performance of their new song “Psycho” without Wendy on Jan. 4.
