Selena Gomez is back to music and back to “herself” with her new and long awaited album “Rare.”
About five years since her emotionally charged album “Revival” was released, Gomez has made her return to music and after the release of emotion ballad “Lose You to Love Me” she expresses her new found vitality throughout the rest of the project.
The title track, “Rare” is an expression of Gomez’s new love and respect for herself. The first lyrics of the song read, “I don’t have it all, I’m not claiming to / But I know that I’m special.”
Gomez told MTV News the opener is all about “finding ‘incredible freedom’ within herself”. It wasn’t until November 2019 that Gomez made her first public performance in two years.
The video features stunning and dreamy visuals as the 27-year-old finds herself in what seems to be a fantastical forest. Throughout, Gomez wears multiple goddess-like gowns while singing among rainbows, butterflies, glitter and bursts of color.
During a recent interview with WSJ Magazine, the “Look at her now” singer spoke about her journey with self-love. “That’s something I work on continuously,” she told the outlet. “But I feel so empowered because I’ve gained so much knowledge about what was going on mentally.”
As of its release on Friday, Gomez’s video has already amassed over 4.5 million views.
The album consists of a total of 13 songs including the already released tracks as well as a feature from Kid Cudi on song “A Sweeter Place.”
Gomez’s new album is now available for purchase and download on all music streaming services.
