There are plenty of world-shaping events in the music industry that took place between 2010 – 2019. Live Nation Entertainment emerged from a $2.5 billion merger between Live Nation and Ticketmaster. The Beatles put their music on iTunes. Music Modernization Act became law. Arcade Fire became the first indie act to win album of year Grammy. Spotify arrived in America and went public a few years later. Apple acquired Beats Electronics. Tidal was launched. Streaming overtook physical music sales. Fyre Festival failed massively. Streaming passed 1 trillion in a single year. Apple premiered Apple Music and shut down iTunes. Grammy rule changed for streaming-only releases to be eligible for Grammys. Universal Music Group acquired EMI recorded music to reduce the “Big Four” to three while Sony / ATV acquired EMI Publishing. And we lost some music industry icons – Whitney Houston, Prince, David Bowie, Avicii – just to mention a few. The decade also produced a plethora of great albums. But which ones tops them all?
