Los Angeles rapper YG was arrested on robbery charges early Friday morning after police raided his Chatsworth, California home.
LA County Sheriff deputies took Keenon “YG” Jackson into custody after authorities served a search warrant at his home tied to “an ongoing criminal investigation,” according to an LASD spokesperson who spoke with Rolling Stone.
Jackson is currently being held at the L.A. Men’s Central Jail on $250,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, January 28, according to CBSLA.
The arrest comes two days before the 29-year-old emcee was expected to perform a tribute to slain rapper Nipsey Hussle at the 62nd Grammy Awards Ceremony on Sunday, January 26. It is unclear whether or not YG will be released from jail on bail in time to partake in the performance.
The memorial is set to be a star-studded affair, featuring appearances from Kirk Franklin, DJ Khaled, John Legend, Meek Mill and Roddy Ricch who are poised to honor Nipsey’s legacy. YG and Hussle were close friends and frequent collaborators together.
The sheriff’s department did not provide any additional details on the criminal allegations at this time.
This isn’t YG’s first experience on the wrong end of a police search warrant in recent months. Authorities raided a Hollywood Hills home leased by YG last July after a car registered in his name was involved in a deadly pursuit and shootout a few weeks prior, resulting in the death of a bystander.
YG was not at home during the raid and claimed he was not at the scene of the gunfight either, insisting he was in a Hollywood recording studio at the time the crime took place.
